------------- OOC ----------

GM: I would like to call your attention to a post here if you haven't seen it-- http://pleasantdale.dreamwidth.org/1613.html
A little bit of game housekeeping- folks that have made a post to the holiday post got a dp
a bit of news as to an upcoming founder's day event in town and three rumors

The part that concerns us right now are the rumors-- they are:
1. The wife of Chester Wilson was spotted wearing Captain Mystery's trademark cape at the Silver Skies drive-in during a holiday show there. Could it be that while Chester cleans up in the Fuller Brush market, Kattherine has been swept off her feet as the Captain's latest conquest?

2. Local UFO enthusiasts have been keeping their eyes to the skies after a strange flash of light was spotted late one night by some teenagers out past curfew on Pleasantdale Ridge. Since no air sirens followed the flash, that meant it wasn't a commie invasion -- which can mean only one thing. Aliens!

3. Is rabies on the rise? The Pleasant Pastures Veterinary Clinic seems to think so. They're having an upcoming event to get your cats and dogs vaccinated and have been placing posters to that effect all over town.

I thought perhaps we could choose a rumor that characters might like to start poking into and that would be a good start. So... talk amongst yourselfs, figure out what we'd like to start off with.

* Monty is definetly headed to the vet then for Butch. Yep yep yep

* Janie-PL is worried about aliens

* Eric's probably going to make sure Webley's got his shots; Fred, on the other hand, is going to be wondering whether they've got to watch out for little green men as well as big red ones. Whereas Katie just has 'hmph' to say regarding 'sweeping' and 'feet'.

*Rex might be looking into changing his paper route with one of the other fellows, just for a little while. The Wilsons aren't on his route, but a rumor like that has promise.

* [Nica]: Aliens! [Vito]: Rabies!

* Chow doesn't care about who is sleeping with who, and he doesn't much care about aliens, but eh does have a cat so his vote would also be rabies.

GM: So perhaps we can get folks to be at the clinic with their respective animals and that would be a good place to start.

------------------ IC ------------------

GM: The Pleasant Pastures Veteranary clinic is crowded as can be. Apparently the rabies scare and the posters have been bringing people in from all over. A harried looking woman at the reception desk is making sure that everyone signs in as they come in, but there's a lot of people mulling about all over the waiting room waiting their turns.

[Vito]: *has Killer on a leash; Killer is a six month old red Doberman who probably hasn't killed anything bigger than a box of Milk Bones*

[Chow] *is here with his cat in a cardboard box, looking sullen about being here and being around so many people and their loud yappy dogs*

[Chow] *ponders the fate of these dogs in many asian countries

(Maxine) *has Ozzie the cat in a carrier, and is settled on one of those chairs looking like she's been there a while* Wow, half the town's here.

[Chow] *after signing in, retreats to a corner with his cat-in-a-box, murmuring to it in quiet chinese to try and get it to calm down*

[Janie] *is with Lynn, her boss, and a very cute beagle puppy. Her boss hands Lynn some money, then leaves without a word*

* Monty has Butch on his own red leash, an adult rotwiler that pants hapily on the floor.

[Vito]: Who's a good dog? Who's a good dog? Yeah ... good boy. *patpatpat*

[Lynn] *is happily holding the puppy in her arms*

GM: (Receptionist) Has everyone signed in? Please sign in here....

[Webley] *is a black Labrador retriever who is currently eyeing a Persian with his head tilted, and is currently attached via a leash to a dapper Englishman. well, okay, is attached to Eric, who is trying to get him to come over to the receptionist's desk*

[Nica]: BEAGLE! *runs over to Lynn* How cute! A little Snoopy-dog!

[Eric] Webley-- come on, now. Leave Miss Prissyfurson or whatever that is alone. We've got business. Yes, I need to sign in please.

* JimmyChow scowls indiscriminately at all the dogs. You barbarians had better keep your mutts on their leashes and not scare Me-Me

[Killer]: *pantpantpant*

GM: (Receptionist) Here you are-- just put your name there at the bottom, and check off whether you have a cat or dog. *as if it isn't obvious*

(Maxine) *gives a polite nod to folks she knows-- Mr. Chow, Vito and Eric...*

[Eric] What if it's a hybrid?

GM: (Receptionist) .....excuse me?

[Eric] *checks off 'dog' anyhow, and signs his name* Nothing.

[Vito]: Hiya, Miss Maxine. Your car behavin' for ya?

GM:(Receptionist) *eyes the dog for a moment--- it's been a long day*

[Lynn] Phillip got her for me! I don't even have a name for her yet!

[Eric] Americans haven't heard of cogs, I reckon. *heads over to take a seat*

(Maxine) Hey Vito-- the old girl's been running fine since Eric tuned her up.

[Janie]*signs in with her name, and checks off 'dog'

(JimmyChow) *squints sourly at this British fellow and his 'cog' nonsense

[Nica]: Oh, she's such a little sweetums! Wow, is it crazyville here or what?

* Monty is next to sign in, Butch pawing at his foot. "What?"

GM: | The back door opens, and a family comes out from just having had their pet vaccinated. The little girl is holding a poodle's leash and looking tearful.

[Vito]: Good, fantastic. Glad to hear it!

GM: (Mom) Now now don't worry dear-- the vet said everything will be fine.

[Lynn] Help me name her!

GM: (Dad) Chin up, sport-- dogs don't hate getting their shots as much as you do.

[Janie] *eyes the family*

GM: (Family) *heads on for the door*

[Webley] *perks up his ears at the passing poodle*

[Vito]: *signs in and leads Killer over by Janie* ... hey, I see Lynn has a new little friend.

[Janie] Hmph. Yes, she does.

[Vito]: *rueful grin* ... *w* which you either weren't told about or didn't agree to beforehand.

[Rex] *heads in, dragging (and sometimes being _dragged by_) a huge and very drooly St. Bernard*

[Eric] *eyes Rex, amused* ... I swear, that dog is as large as its owner.

[Nica]: *gets out of the way of the St Bernard* ... holy ... moly.

* Monty just chuckles at the sight of the benard.

GM: (Receptionist) *looks a bit unsure whether to offer over the clipboard to the boy or the dog at first-- that is a BIG dog*

[Rex] "She's not mine. I'm just doing this for Jimmy. He asked me if I wanted to watch the dog or his little sister, so I picked the dog."

GM: (Vet) *checks the list, and calls the next name* --- Mrs. Alvison?

GM: (Mrs. A) *a large woman in a very fancy hat with a floofy persian heads for the vet like she's ready to do battle* Now what's all this nonesense about rabies?

[Rex] "...I think I made the wrong decision."

GM: (Vet) Well, it's important to get your pet vacinated-- it's a terrible disease.

GM: (Mrs. A) Yes, but why is it so crowded. What are all these dogs doing here? Don't you just put them down when they get sick? Miss Prissy doesn't like waiting.

* Monty squints his eyes at Alvison.

* JimmyChow watches the lady with 'miss prissy' sourly. watches everyone sourly.

[Janie] Miss Prissy is going to have to wait tonight, Miss, I'm sorry to say. Don't see where you think you can get on front of everyone else. *is not in the best mood today, and forgot her filter*

* JimmyChow eyes Janie

GM: (Mrs. A) Well it's _my_ turn. My name was Called. *glares at Janie* And it isn't your place to say who goes when, young lady.

* Vito doesn't exactly wince, but does settle beside Janie [19:48]

[Janie] I'll show you where my place is

[Nica]: ... heh.

[Lynn] Mama!

GM: (Vet) Ladies, _please_! This is a place of business.

GM: (Mrs. A) Why, I never!

[Eric] *m* If she'd ever, she might not have become a cat person.

[Lynn] Just leave the old bat alone

(Maxine) *facepalms*

* JimmyChow shakes his head at americans

[Janie] *folds her arms and glares*

[Rex] *juggles the clipboard with one hand and the leash with the other, but manages to sign in* "Ma'am? There's no place on this sheet for 'horse'."

GM: (Receptionist) --- Just check off the box for dog. Possibly twice.

[Rex] *grins and then checks the box for 'dog', then adds a little star next to it*

[Vito]: Ma'am, it's first come, first served, like anyplace else in town. Please ... don't make a scene.

(Vet) Look... Mrs. Alvison-- take Miss Prissy on back, you were next. And you-- miss... *eyes Janie* Kindly sit down and wait your turn.

GM: (Mrs. A) I told that girl I was next. The nerve of those people. *grumbles but follows the vet back*

[Janie] *sits down, but is not impressed at all, and is probably wishing that the lady would get rabies*

[Vito]: Or maybe it's squeaky wheel gets the grease, I can never keep that straight.

[Webley] *meanwhile, experimentally begins sniffing at Chow's leg*

(JimmyChow) !!

* JimmyChow stares down at this brute

[Webley] *snuff snuff snuffle*

* JimmyChow hurriedly lifts the box with Me-Me, who is hissing, and shakes his leg at the dog to get it to back off

(JimmyChow) Ei! Ei! move you--

[Eric] Don't mind him, mate -- I think he's just noting you don't smell like any of the stuff 'round my flat at all. C'mon, Webley, you're upsettin' the fellow and his kitten.

[Eric] *gives a gentle hissst*

* JimmyChow grimaces at Eric

(JimmyChow) Your-- dog-- keep to self *sullenly wraps his arms around cat-box*
[
[Webley] ! *sits up attentively, and then obediently trots back over to Eric to settle on the floor next to him*

(JimmyChow) hmff. *at least the brute goes when called

[Eric] There's a good boy. *pets him and ruffles him behind the ears* Sorry if he makes you nervous, sir -- he's harmless, I promise you. Retrievers don't bite folk.

* JimmyChow does not look convinced at Eric

GM: Some patrons are talking or whispering amongst themselves in the midst of all this chaos. If you would like to listen in an see if anyone's mentioning anything of interest-- give it a per + notice .]

[Janie] *is too worked up to be nosy*

[Nica]: So, Lynn ... Any names on the table already, or are you drawin' a blank?

[Rex] *has meanwhile wrestled the dog over to a chair* "You're such a handful today, Queenie."

[Killer]: *is licking Vito's hand, and he's ignoring it, because at least the dog is being quiet and staying in place*

[Lynn] Lucifer, but Mama said no, and that it's a boy's name

[Nica]: *laughs* Okay, uh ... How about Jezebel

[Rex] "Aw, why not Lucy?" *calls*

[Lynn] I like it! .... Lucy. *grins, because Rex is talking to her*

[Nica]; Very good, name your Snoopy-dog Lucy. I like it.

[Rex] *grins again and waves*

[Lynn] *waves happily* Thank you for helping me name my dog

GM: Eric, Chow, and Monty-- there are some folks gossiping about what just happened between Mrs. A and Janie. Not too ineresting to you, really. But then you overhear two men talking about something else entirely--- They both have hunting dogs. And they seem to be discussing an Incident...

GM: (Man) So yeah--- it was all kinda crazed. Wild-eyed like. When he took it down, he brought it in to Fred to get it stuffed--

[Vito]; *is talking quietly to Janie, trying to calm her down*

[Janie] *is listening to Vito, and nodding, slowly calming down*

(Maxine) *is just settled with one hand in her carrier to pet her nervous cat*

GM: (Other man) Yeah? It on his mantle? We should go see.

* JimmyChow half-glances over at the men talking, torn between his irritation at Webley and this new thing

GM: (Man) Naw, it isn't-- because darnest thing happened. Fred said just as he was getting ready to stuff it-- it jumped up off his table. Snarling and spitting.

GM: (Other Man) Get out! It weren't dead?

* JimmyChow narrows his eyes

GM: (Man) Guess not. It was just playing-- heh-- possum. So ol' Fred had to beat its head in. Nothing left to stuff.

* JimmyChow shakes his head at Americans not being able to tell if something is DEAD or not, sheesh

GM: (Other Man) But was it rabid?

GM: (Man) Snarlin and spittin and trying to attack even after it got shot? Hell yeah it was rabid. That's why I'm not going back in those woods until Buck gets his shots.

[Eric] *glances over thataway, bemused* Bloody hell. *to Webley* Lucky you we're not going hunting anytime soon, boy.

* Monty thinks he made a good choice to come in today...

(Maxine) *to Eric* Hm?

[Eric] If that's how the possums around here act, I'd hate to see what the ducks'll do.

[Vito]: ... yeah, guess I'll have to start aiming for the big ones from now on.

GM: (Mrs A) *emerges from the back with her cat* Thank you doctor. Yes, she's indoor only of course but one never knows what sort of creature someone could encounter *glares at Janie with that line, then heads for the door*

[Eric] *aside* Rabid possums, from the sound. Or a bad shot. *to the hunter* Pardon a stupid question from a foreigner, mate, but ducks don't get rabies, do they?

(Maxine) Oh dear...

[Lynn] *GLARES at Mrs A*

GM: (Man) *eyes the limey* Ducks? Nah, birds don't get it. Just dogs and cats and squirrels and stuff like that. Maybe bears.

[Webley] *is a Good Boy, and doesn't look up at the Persian. just stays mostly still. mostly.*

[Janie] *is about to say something to Mrs.A*

[Vito]: *instinctively puts his entire arm between Janie and Mrs A* ... calm, please.

[Janie] I hope that cat scratches her.

GM: (Other man) Bears? When's the last time you saw a bear in the woods?

* JimmyChow huffs

GM: (Man) I'm just _saying_. He asked a question.

GM: (Vet) *having heard this question* People can get rabies too.

(JimmyChow) Bats get it.

[Rex] *is only doing this as a favor, and yawns a little bit*

[Janie] I hope it gives her rabies

[Eric] *nods* Was considering going duck hunting at some point, but if I'm going tramping out there, I'd best know if the critters are acting less sedate than they do 'cross the pond.

GM: (Vet) If you see a rabid animal, gentlemen-- please don't try to capture it yourself. You could get bitten.

[Nica]: And it's a really bad way to die.

(JimmyChow) Mammals. *grunted at Eric

[Nica]: *to Lynn* I wrote a science report on i once.

GM: (Man) I see a rabid animal, I'm filling it full of lead. Anyhow, you want to know more about it-- go talk to Fred.

[Nica]: *w* You go crazy, try to bite people. There's no cure.

[Eric] *to Webley* That means if we see anything acting like it's got a lightning bolt up its end, you're not retrieving -that-, boy.

[Webley] *peers up, mostly out of realization that Eric just said 'boy' and expecting a command or a bit of praise*

[Eric] *pets his head* Think I'll do that, just in case.

GM: (Vet) *checking the list* Miss Maxine, you're next...

(Maxine) Thanks Dr. Jones-- that's us, Ozzie, come on.. *takes her kitty in*

* JimmyChow frowns at all this talk of rabies and opens the top flap of his box a fraction to check on me-me

[Webley] **settles down again, content that it's just 'boy' in the 'talking about you aren't you a good dog' context', wagging his tail*

(JimmyChow) *at the hunters* Mister Fred is the one with this animal that is not dead?

[Lynn] *to Nica* Do people bite other people?

GM: (Man) Yeah. He's got what's left of it as his shop, way I heard. I think he should sell it. Maybe to a circus.

[Nica]: Not usually. But rabies ... like I said, it makes people insane. You stop being you before you start being dead.

* JimmyChow frowns and scratches at his jaw

GM: (Man) Why, you want to have a look? Bet Fred would let you.

(JimmyChow) Hnf. Maybe.

[Eric] You're not going to start bringing souvenirs of your conquests into the shop, are you? *to Nica and Vito*

(Monty) "Must be loooking for a way to get rid of it..."

[Eric] *can think of nothing worse than rotting rabid rat carcasses over the engine blocks*

[Nica]: ... ew.

[Eric] *... then thinks of someone putting one in a gas tank and changes his mind.*

[Vito]: *grins* Not really the trophy-takin' types. No.

GM: (Man) My name's Earl. I'm one of Fred's buddies-- just tell him Earl sent you. He won't even charge you to look at it, I bet.

(JimmyChow) Hmf.
* JimmyChow makes a short nod of acknowledging this info

(Maxine) *emerges from the back with her kitty* Aw there we go, all done...

(Vito) Wait, this thing is still alive? And rabid? Why hasn't he brought it in for the doc to look at?

GM: (Earl) It's not alive no more. He beat its head in.

(JimmyChow) Mister Fred-- he drink?

GM: (Earl) Does the pope crap in the woods? Erm-- I mean yeah.

* JimmyChow gives a little shrug as if to say 'there, then, there's your big mystery'

[Vito]: Still, couldn't the doctor run a test, make sure that it was really rabies? I mean, it sounds bad, sure, but ... if it ain't rabies we can all breathe a little easier.

* JimmyChow snorts at gullibility of Americans also, and lapses into silence again

[Rex] "What else could it be, anyway?"

[Eric] ... I hope he doesn't, the Vatican would throw a right fit if he went out and raised his holy robes...

* JimmyChow rolls his eyes at people seriously discussing the hallucination of a drunk

GM: (Earl) Well go git it if you want to. And he doesn't drink when he's taxidermying. They don't mix.

(JimmyChow) Maybe he drink taxidermy juice.

GM: (Earl) *snort*

[Vito]: I dunno, but it's not my job to know. Seems like the person who would know should have a look.

[Janie] Isn't that formaldahyde?

GM: | A few more people are called in, and your turns will certainly be next. If players want, we can handwavey all the animals getting shots- but what do they want to try and do with this info they've learned, if anything? Talk to the vet? Talk to Fred? Go home and get away from all these crazy people?

[Webley] *wants to pee on a bush later.*

[Eric] *does not want Webley to pee on a bush, and is bored, so does inquire whether a dog can get rabies if it picked up an animal that had rabies - since his dog -is- a retriever. mind you, doesn't -want- Webley to pick up a dead rabid squirrel. but still.*

* JimmyChow , unfortunately, will probably return home. This is the problem with playing an inherently anti-social, un-curious character.

* Janie apologizes to the receptionist for her behavior*

[Rex] *will also leave, because the sooner this beast gets home, the better. The rabies story will make for a few interesting conversations, though.*

* Vito is hanging around near Eric, also wanting to know just how contagious this stuff is

GM: (Vet) Most retrievers don't bite into an animal when they bring it back. So chances are he's fine-- though I'd consider just laying off the hunting until the township gets things under control.

* Monty feels like checking out that Fred's place after this.

[Janie] Have you tested any samples? *can't remember if that's been asked already*

[Eric] *nod* Very well. Late season for you, boy. *is, yes, also moderately curious about brained animals, if only because crazy Americans are funny.*

GM: (Vet) We sent out samples to the state lab. So far we haven't heard anything back yet.

* JimmyChow was going to get some meat for his cat as a special treat on the way home but will now be wondering if the meat in the stores is infected

[Janie] ...Could you send it to the university lab too? They're closer and not as near overworked

[Vito]: Heck, I could drive it out there myself. Any time. Short trip on my bike.

GM: (Vet) We could, but there's a protocol to be followed... *sighs* Buerocracy.

[Vito]: Ah, yeah.

GM: (Vet) It has to be reported and then sent out. Then the state boys tell our local boys what to do. Then they tell us. We're just trying to get a head start and vaccinate our local pets.

[Janie] Right.

(Maxine) Well I'm going to get Ozzie home-- but is anyone going to Freds? I can meet up with you after.

[Lynn] Can we go Mama?

(Maxine) I'm kind of interested now.

[Vito]: ... you know what? Maybe I should do that. Nica, you have your homework done?

(JimmyChow) If you go MIster Fred

[Janie] Sure thing, sweetheart, but Phillip took off with the car.

(JimmyChow) Then ask him what he drink that day

[Nica]: Oh, of course. *is so full of shit*

[Eric] Hell, I've never seen a taxidermist's shop. Aside from knowing that it's like an undertaker's shop, except nobody complains as much about all the fresh corpses.

[Vito]: Okay ... um, Janie, Lynn, you can ride along with us if you like, I took the Studebaker tonight.

(Monty) We'll be checking out Fred's place, won't we Butch? *Butch tilts his head*

[Janie] Thank you, Vito.

[Killer]: *pantpantpant*

[Rex] "Gee. You know, I'd love to go but I've gotta get Queenie back home. You guys don't have too much fun!"

[Lynn] Bye Rex... *happy smile*

* JimmyChow collects his cat and box and heads on home, content in feeling smugly superior to gullible americans. ahhh irony.

[Rex] "Be careful, Lynn. Wouldn't want _you_ catching something, now!" *waves and is half-dragged out by the excited St. Bernard, who was cool as could be until three seconds ago*

[Webley] *sniffsniffsniffs at one of the cars next to the vet's office, curious*

* JimmyChow ties the cat-box onto his bicycle and gives Webley a wide berth

[Webley] *perks up, eyeing bicycle and box* Rrruff!

(JimmyChow) ar-- go, go, shoo *makes ineffectual shooing gesture

[Queenie] *has dragged Rex out onto the sidewalk in pursuit of cat, and barks, too, since OTHER dogs are now barking...*

[Lucy] *is excited by the barking, jumps out of Lynn's arms, and runs towards the action*

[Rex] "Sorry! I don't know why she wants to play NOW..."

* Monty tries to get his Butch to quiet down, it too barking..

[Vito]: *heads out to the Studebaker, which is black, with one red fender, and opens the back door for the girls and the puppies*

[Eric] Webley! Don't bother the Chinaman, for heaven's sakes, he's got enough problems.

GM : |Doggone it, there's a bit of a Cat-tastrophe there, but at least no one is rabid!

* JimmyChow gives Eric a look that isn't sure whether he's grateful or offended

* JimmyChow makes a non-committal grumpy noise and keeps the bicycle between him and Webley as he walks the bike out of the parking lot towwards the road

[Rex] *manages to settle down Queenie, with many apologetix looks*

[Eric] *tugs Webley along towards the car, chiding him*

[Nica]: C'mon, this is going to be WAHHH! *giggles as Lucy starts frantically licking her face*

[Webley] *looks disappointed, with big sad eyes*

* Monty manages to usher Butch into his own car, shaking his head.

[Webley] *wanted to see the kitty!*

[Janie]: *settles in the passenger's seat, still seething*

* JimmyChow shoots the black dog one last glare before huffing himself onto his bicycle and starting to bike on hom

[Lynn]: *is giggling too, and trying to get Lucy under control*
